Keely’s commitment to teaching the practice of Yoga invites students towards a mind body awareness through a challenging yet peaceful practice. Her life as a dedicated yogi began long ago, but only in 2005 did Keely make the conscious effort to make Yoga an integral part of her life. A movement artist from the very beginning, she danced as a child, all the way through college. She then transitioned into Martial Arts and did Capoeira with Grupo Axe’ for several years. After years of dancing on the stage and traveling internationally to acquire her next belt in Capoeira, she decided it was time to give her body some replenishment. In 2008 Keely received her 200 hour RYT from Moksha Yoga Chicago under Daren Freisen. She has had the pleasure of studying and being influenced by Master teachers, Kim Wilcox, Seane Corn, Tias Little, Gabriel Halpern, and others.
She is forever indebted and honored to be able to study intensively under Jim Bennitt and James Tennant, the co-owners and founders of Tejas Yoga studio, following in the traditions of Tantric Hatha yoga. She graduated from their Teacher Intensive training in the spring of 2012, and continues to practice and teach there. Incorporating elements of Ayurveda, working complimentary of the seasons, and encouraging healthy living habits, have all been lessons rooted from Jim and James, and continue to influence her teaching.
In Keely’s class you can expect a guided meditation, as well as an intelligent sequence of poses initiated by the breath. Paying close attention to student’s capabilities, limitations, and intentions for the practice, the class is accessible to all levels of practitioners, spiritually, physically and mentally. She aims to guide students to extend their experience from their yoga mat, to their lives outside the studio.
Outside of the Yoga studio, Keely works in the world of social justice and technology, trying to create calm and peace in worlds that don’t have enough of it. She loves and adores the time spent with her 2 dogs, and partner. She travels far and wide when she can, and creates delicious vegetarian dishes for friends on the regular.
